Materials

I thought it would be helpful to share a list of materials and links that I like. Not suggesting you buy these particular ones I am not getting a kickback for recommending them or anything and sometimes you can find better prices elsewhere… However I had to source all my stuff from scratch and a list of what others used would have helped me at the beginning.

Anyway here is it, let me know if it helps you or have a suggestion for something to add

Plywood
I used 1/2 inch plywood for the base and 1/4 in plywood for everything else from local hardware stores like Home Depot and Lowes

4 Ply Matt board
I don’t have a particular brand I love above all others but here is some I recently bought online Link

Styrene
This stuff comes in all shapes and sizes and is good for trim or detail like railings. Glues great but I use it sparingly since mat board works great for most things Link

PVC Foam Board
Love this stuff but it is pricey so I use it where it counts. Anywhere I need a smooth surface, a nice beveled edge or a curve. It glues and sands so well and take paint beautifully. Come in all sorts of sizes and widths but it can be soft and easily dented. I typically use 2 – 5 mm thick Link

Knife and blades
I have some fancy Exacto knives in a wooden case but this one is the real workhorse. The blades are in the handle so you can quickly snap off for a fresh blade in the middle of your project Link

Two part Resin
Or liquid plastic. I love this stuff beyond all measure and used tons of it in La Maison Tordue. All my wall and furniture details were made with this stuff and it dries in 15 minutes. Make sure you use measuring cups and don’t get it mixed up with the mold maker stuff LOL Packaging is almost identical Link

Silicon molds
I bought several of these silicon baking molds in various sizes and patterns that were great for walls and furniture decoration Link

Mold Release Spray
This will make it easier to get stuff out of the molds and prolong the life of your silicon molds Link

Mold makers
If you love something you made and want to be easily able to make more you can press the object into this stuff and once it hardens you have your own personal silicon mold to use Just don’t put it on something made of silicon – it sticks like crazy. It is good for pillars and decorative element that are flat on one side – making a two part mold is much tricker Link

Toothpicks

Coffee Straws
Used these mostly for “candles” The ones I bought on Amazon are gone so I have not ordered from this Link

Lollipop Sticks Link

Dowels Link

Skewers Link

Coffee stirrers
These are great for flooring much easier to cut than lollipop sticks Link

Wooden beads
I have a couple different ones I have bought. These ones are great for table legs These ones I have used for all sorts of different purposes like bed knobs and feet for cabinets

Glass beads
Having a wide selection of sizes and colors on hand is great. I use them for chandeliers – fancy door knobs, jewelry, hat pins you name it Link These ones are great for chandeliers. These ones are colorful and inexpensive. These ones are great for lamps and glass candy containers etc. Its also good to have a few fancy ones on hand for chandeliers and perfume bottle etc Link

Jewelry findings
I have bought several different assorted batches. These ones are good for chandelier parts, fire-screens and random decorative details. Easy to clip with wire cutters. These ones are great for chandeliers and decorative element on table legs, bottom of vases or perfume bottles etc

Nail Art Kits
I didn’t even realize this was a thing until I was searching for tiny butterflies and what a treasure trove of tiny embellishments! Link

Super Glue

Wood Glue Link

Fabric/card Glue Link

Epoxy Link

Glue Accelerant
This stuff is magic. I used it mostly when making chandeliers and I needed an instant hold. Spray it on superglue and it hardens instantly or spray it on one surface and add glue to the other But be careful with it – Don’t glue your fingers together and sue me LOL Link

Clamps
I use all sorts of sizes. This is a good all around kit to have. These are good for hard to get to places. These I couldn’t possibly live without for making furniture, dresses, drapes.

Fairy lights
I use these for all my lighting Link

Acetate/Clear Plastic Sheets
I use this for my windows. I like that it is super sturdy and completely clear. It is also covered in plastic on both sides so you can wait to pull that off until you are finished working on it keeping it clean Link

Wire
Cheap wire in a couple gauges is really helpful for making chandeliers, candelabras etc. I use 16 or 18 gauge for the visible wires and inside table legs made from beads. I use 26 gauge for wrapping elements together when I don’t want it to be very visible and glue would be messy. Like attaching lights or trim to my chandeliers. It also made for good harp strings

Brushes
Any brand just have multiple sizes and some disposable ones Link

Ruler/Straight edge
Any brand as long as it metal

Cutting mat
Any brand is good but I am partial to this one

Paint
I use house paint a lot Here is a good link for small amounts in a million colors and some craft paints I liked Here is a link to French Chateau a great base color for both interior and exterior Link

Metallic Markers
Love these they are great for adding gold accents to wall decor etc. This one is my favorite

Mini Tweezers
Any brand works I have this set and mostly just use the same two or three pairs LOL

Printer Fabric Link

Upholstery Fill
While I use regular pillow fill any brand will do I also swear by this stuff. It comes on a large role and can be cut like fabric and provides the exact right amount of fill for dining room chairs etc – the stuff you don’t want too puffy or lumpy – you can add a couple layers if you need to and it is also good for trapping your regular fill and giving it a smoother look Link

Roofing Link

Mirrored sheets
I recently discovered this perfect mirrored acrylic which I just love! Lightweight, cuts great with my laser and has an awesome reflection. Link
If you want something to cut with scissors, this is not perfect but easy to use and is self adhesive. For when you need a mirrored look but a perfect reflection is not required Link
