Main Bedroom
This room was a huge undertaking. I really wanted to evoke that palatial feel and was inspired by Catherines palace in St Petersburg and of course Marie Antoinette’s bedroom in Versailles
First step was putting the roof/floor on and making sure the first floor lights were working before putting flooring down. My youngest son still lives at home so he wired all my lights together at the end for me. Paint cans double as weights as needed.
I confess I had started to work ahead and had some furniture ready to go that I was able to put in place and figure out my final plan for layout
I typically have two or three projects going on at a time – making furniture – creating walls and decor and painting so I can switch between them if I need a break or am tired of doing one thing. I have a closet in my craft room where walls go to dry and wait till I am ready to install and “The shelf of Waiting” to hold all my furniture that still don’t have a room to live in yet. It can get quite crowded at times
Well I quickly realized that this bed was nowhere near fancy enough – so I decided on a platform and drapes with a half canopy (another design decision that led to unexpected repercussions LOL) I had bought a lovely turquoise sari material that I had been saving for this room since it paired so nicely with the turquoise floral satin, which I used both on the walls and for drapes.
All inspired by Catherines bedroom suite which had matching wallpaper and drapes – seems to be a design trait of the times.
You can also see how I pleat drapes around dowels, or fat straws, pin them and then spray with 80’s hairspray to keep in place. Clamps of all shapes and sizes are my new best friends LOL
The resin I use hardens in 15 min but if you take it out of the mold carefully a little early then you can bend it which is how I got my curved swan pairs on the canopy
Yet more glue and clamps and I finally had a bed that befits the lady of the houses station in life 🙂 I decided my alcove needed to be lit to match the chandelier so I pulled out my trusty fairy lights, coffee straws, beads, wire and random jewelry findings and made some pretty sconces.
Sadly I realized the last minute decision to put the bed on a platform meant my walls weren’t tall enough. I absolutely refused to redo the bed since I was happy with it – so I had no choice but to make a raised coved ceiling instead
Finally I added feathers for the bed canopy – Marie Antoinette eat your heart out LOL
