Dressing Room

This room is truly one of my favorites. I feel like I had finally figured out what I was doing a bit more and it came together nicely

To begin with I started laying out paper in furniture sizes to make sure I didn’t make too much furniture to fit in the room (I did anyway TBH LOL) and pulling my palette for the room together.

I wanted another alcove for the vanity and absolutely had to have a tête-à-tête chair – sometimes known as a courting chair

It’s a type of settee that is basically two chairs joined together. They are in a serpentine shape so that the two people occupying it face opposite directions, but are quite close and can easily see each other in profile (the French phrase “tête-à-tête” refers to an intimate conversation).

In those days many people showed up in a ladies dressing room to talk and plan while the lady was at her toilette. Probably because it all took so long LOL So I imagined the Lady of the house in here planning balls, fancy dinners writing her correspondence all while her maids worked on her hair etc

I started sketching up furniture designs and building the basic structures from card stock. I found lovely paper tiles online for the fireplace surround and bought the fireplace on etsy. The screen was images I printed from the web on a card stock frame. The walls were fabric with a very delicate cake mold for icing as trim at the top. Kind of a PITA to do but I loved how it turned out

I went a bit overboard on dressing the vanity but it was so much fun! I also ended up adding light sconces to the vanity and made the fireplace light up! I used twigs for the logs, red and yellow beads for the embers glued over the top of the same LED fairy lights

Time for drapes and details, I made a really cute changing area behind the screen with a curved pelmet. Then dressed the tables with newspapers, macarons from Laduree and a decanter of course

I think one of my favorite things is the writing desk. I tried my hand at some decoupage for that. the legs were made by carving the shape i wanted then making a two part mould which I used to mould the legs one at a time then accented them with gold

I did have a couple too many chairs but I ended up using them elsewhere so it all worked out
