Petite Salon

The petite salon was fun to build. A less formal spot for daytime visitors to chat over tea and macarons. These were actually the first walls I painted since the foyer was left white.

I discovered trying to paint the gold detailing with a brush was too inaccurate so I switched to metallic gold pen for the Grand Salon and was much happier with the result.

Since the dining room and Petite Salon opened up into each other (I know not exactly historically accurate but what I wanted) I chose complementary color schemes of cornflower blue and beige – all accented of course with gold LOL

I found a seller on etsy that sells matching fabric and wallpaper and I had just enough to upholster a chaise, love seat and foot stool. Furniture always starts the same way. A rough sketch that I refine and cut out of card stock – building up layers for dimension. Then I add the curlicues in resin from my baking molds

Paint the whole thing gold – I sometimes remember to spray a coat of crystal clear before moving onto upholstery. The best glue is Aileen’s Tacky Glue because if you are sparing with it it doesn’t mark your fabrics. But anyway the beauty of it is, you can hide small imperfections behind the trim you glue on at the end LOL.

I tried all sorts of different trims and 2 mm wide seems to work best. My two favorites were a giant roll of cord for blinds in a champagne gold – very versatile and plan satin 2mm cord worked best in tight areas – had enough volume to cover the seams but was still super flexible and didn’t have a mind of its own they way firmer cord does. I bought a bag of different colors on amazon inexpensively

I had bought some small flowers online that I made pretty arrangement from and glued them onto simple card stock pedastals (I will have to post a tutorial on those). Made my first ever tiny table so its a bit rough, but then since I covered it with a cute tea set some flowers and macarons also purchased on etsy I figure I would let it go.

Which really means I will end up replacing it now I know what I am doing LOL
