Dining Room
In which I discovered that Versailles parquet flooring is a chore LOL. I had every intention of crafting each floor individually but it was so time consuming and my hand ached so much from the shears that I gave up. I did some flooring by hand but others I purchased printed paper flooring. I still feel like it was a cop out so I vow not do that in my next house. I have better toys…I mean tools now🙂
The dining room table was my next project. For this I used my trusty card stock for the frame and two pieces of foam board for the top. It’s a great material that cuts like butter, can be lightly sanded, has a smooth surface which takes paint and glue well and is flexible enough to bend a little without snapping. You can see I used it for the double curve at the base
The legs are fashioned form a giant bag of mixed wooden beads again from amazon. I stick a piece of wire into scrap foam board and add the beads to the wire, gluing as I go – keeps it straight while the glue dries. There were 4 beads used per leg, which I painted before gluing them to the table
It’s probably not the traditional way of building a dollhouse but it worked for me. I literally went room by room. Stairs went up first, the the walls on either side were next before topping it all off with the ceiling. I installed the lights then started work on the next floor. Rinse and repeat.. I was really happy with these curtains turned out, I used two different fabrics and a bunch of trim from my stash
Time to do the really fun stuff! I built a little buffet in the same way as before, you can see the wire poking out the legs before I clip it off, add paint and gold accents and then dress it. I find that for the look of dark or lacquered wood that a mix of black and copper craft paint works well.
I had so much fun building the candelabras – just wire and a stash of mixed metal jewelry making findings and beads, Again bought a bag cheap on amazon and it had a 100 uses for this project. Then it was just detail work like adding art and dressing my dining room table. I chose to glue it all in place so I didn’t lose the tiny forks and plates
