Art Nouveau Foyer
Stairs are always a challenge but I couldn’t resist putting in stairs and hallways on every floor because in Art Nouveau homes they are so beautiful in their own right. I don’t think I have ever seen an Art Nouveau hallway that wasn’t a masterpiece so I had some big aspirations.
First of all I was very inspired by Horta and created a floor that was in his style. As usual I created the design in Adobe Illustrator then used my laser on engrave setting. Lots of trial and error and dry fitting later the stairs took shape.
I added delicate wainscoting and borders that were cut out of mat-board and painted with acrylic markers. The servants stairs are tucked in behind and lead down to the kitchen
I had built it all to the measurements that I had planned and laid out in Illustrator but when I asked my husband to cut me a piece of plywood for the base of the house he accidentally cut it a couple inches larger than I had planned…. I didn’t want to throw away all the work I had done so I decided to just go with it and figure out a solution later.
I eventually decided to add an inner door and short entry. I think that solves the issue but it does make it hard to see into the foyer that I spent so much time on LOL There is a lovely hall tree in there I swear 🙂
I am really happy with the view from the living room though🙂
