Art Nouveau Kitchen
For some reason I wasn’t excited about building the kitchen… Perhaps because the last room I did in my previous house was the kitchen and I wasn’t in a kitchen mood… Or maybe because I was having to much fun trying out my new laser cutter and couldn’t stop building furniture for other rooms LOL
Things started out well enough – got my flooring done, added walls and even built cabinets, but then progress stalled and my kitchen became a storage area for all the furniture I was building
My plan is a small footprint and a tall row house style when finished, which of course means each level needs to be done before I can move on to the next. I was just procrastinating so much and working on half a dozen other projects.
Fast forward a few months and and I realized I was running out of room to store all this furniture and if I was ever going to make progress I needed to complete the damn kitchen.
I used my laser to cut the cabinets from MDF, then spray painted them before adding all the dishes etc. I changed the floor-plan probably three times in the process and eventually ended up with a back staircase that leads to the foyer above (in behind the grand staircase) The floor was just mat board cut into squares and painted
I had bought some books in Musee d’Orsay in Paris on my last trip that had Art Nouveau stickers in various shapes. I used some on the back wall for “decorative”tile” and thin strips became the floor trim. I really enjoyed making the stove from my trusty mat board and paint. I used some pretty filigree jewelry finding to make the legs.
Then things slowed down to a crawl, I needed to wire it for lights before moving on and for some reason I could not motivate myself to get it done LOL It was probably a month later before I finally got around to it.
I still have some detail to add like staging the kitchen so it looks like it is in use – I plan to have dishes in progress on the prep table and I need to add food and faucets etc – but I will come back to that once I finish more of the rest of the structure 🙂
Hooray I get to move onto the first
