Art Nouveau Living Room
I loved working on this room – the fireplace was one of the first things I worked on. I was really testing the limits of the laser with this intricate design but it all worked out.
This room seemed to take forever to come together – in part because so many dependancies meant I couldn’t glue things together too soon. I wanted the stairs to curve around the arch and the winter garden had to flow properly.
I even ended up cutting a hole in the partially finished living room to light the fireplace even though I originally planned not to…. Always scary using power tools on finished pieces but it came through unscathed and I am much happier to have room for a realistic firebox instead of flat and fake. So much for making life easy LOL
The flooring was made with pre-finished cherry flooring that I etched with he laser and then I added walnut and maple strips to get the final effect. Mitering the corners of all those pieces was about as much fun as you can imagine 🙂
I chose a green and gold color palette, printed out a rug on velour printer paper and finally got to place the furniture that I made 8 months earlier. I was very inspired by the Louis Marjorelle house in Nancy, France so I created my interpretation of their living room furniture. I also created a couple of pretty plant stands and I am most proud of the nesting tables – each table top has an different design.
Next up I added sconces on either side of the fireplace, an alcove for books etc and finally the chandelier before moving onto the winter garden
Again I need to come back and add details and staging
