I have always loved the notion of a winter garden and I honestly think that some of the prettiest are during the Art Nouveau period. I wanted to simulate stained glass and colorful tiled floor so the inhabitants could enjoy a little nature and greenery in inclement weather

I cut out design with my laser for the “ironwork” and used glass paints on sheets of acetate to add color – there will be a tutorial on this soon. This whole thing took forever – between creating the designs in Illustrator, cutting them out twice once for inside and once for outside – painting them on both sides. Then carefully painting the acetate sheets and outlining both sides – glueing all those pieces together – then coming back and glueing it all in place. I was definitely regretting starting this whole project at this point!

Eventually it was done and I am happy with it – the paint wasn’t as translucent as I expected and has some streaking but I am just going to say it “adds to its charm” LOL This is something I may not want to do for a long time 🙂

I added a nice rug a couple small chairs and plan to make some plants eventually. The last thing I did was add the ceiling and a light fixture. I tried something different here and made a series of tiered globes with metal leaves and butterflies – thought it was a nice nod to the fascination with nature during this period – I need to take better phots of it lit and in
