Maids Quarters
This was my second attempt at a maids quarters – the first one got too fancy and became the walk in closet LOL This time managed to restrain the urge to add gold accents and fancy wallpaper 🙂
It still much nicer than maids quarters likely were in that time, but I wasn’t going for historical accuracy – this is my world and Lady Anastasia is a forward thinking woman of intelligence and empathy so she makes sure those working for her are treated well.
With that I made a simple coffee stir stick floor and left it unstained. Smaller and thinner they are more convincing planks if you ask me at this scale and way easier to cut
I had previously made the cute twin beds and they were on the Shelf of Waiting. It was a side project to take a break from making books I think LOL
I had bought a batch of quilting fabric square online and these simpler cotton patterns were perfect. Nice but not too nice 🙂 Add a little lace trim and some flowers and we were in business.
The frames were made from bamboo skewers and wooden beads painted black. I believe I use blocks of Styrofoam for the mattresses. Honestly I was getting so close to the finish line I don’t think I was stopping to many progress pics at this point.
I made matching vanities and dress them a little differently with photos and postcards from home. Added really cute chairs with flowers and stripes.
I found a little pencil sharpener in the shape of an old-fashioned stove pipe furnace to keep them warm, added a rug, and then some botanical prints that they likely pulled out of a magazine on the walls. The ceiling was kept relatively simple, as was the light fixture made from beads and jewelry findings
The final details were just adding some personality I made a little embroidery ring for one of the maids perched on top of her trunk, a knitting basket for the other couple hats, and family photos on the shelves and called it good 🙂
