Gallery

Every fancy palace I have ever visited has at least one gallery/hallway. Ladies used to walk it in inclement weather and it is usually covered in portraits and various artwork as a status symbol.

Clearly I needed one of these LOL. I decided use the hallway on the third floor. I wanted a stained glass window for the back and a balcony with french doors on the front. I decided that on each side in the middle of the doors I would add an alcove to display more pretty things

However first I had to address the disparity in floor level. Remember I added height to the main bedroom ceiling? This is when I had to pay the toll for that decision! The easy solution was to add steps up on one side going into the Music Room and the Blue Bedroom and make the walls on the other side a little taller. All fixed!

The stained glass window was also very simple, I took a clear sheet of acetate and traced my chosen design on it in black Sharpie. Once that dried I flipped it over and colored in the back of the window with colored sharpies. Just like Disney cartoonists did – that way you preserve your clean line work.

It was a little tricky to blend but I was happy with it. Next time I might add leading to give it more dimension. Putting a couple sheets of rice paper behind it makes sure the light is diffused and looks more natural

I then went to town on decorating. I used my silicon molds to make lots of picture frames and added portraits and images I found online. I typically add a scrap of acetate to protect it and then hung them on the walls.

I needed an armless statue of course and found this 3D printed one on etsy. For the other arch I went through my stash for pretty plates and left over vases. It was also a good place for a rug I wasn’t sure what to do with.

All in all I was pretty happy with the way it turned out
